3-Monkey Sashiko Tea Mat, Table Runner
People have asked me, “what is a tea mat”? Well, If we have a cup of tea with a friend or two, it’s a mat that we use. When first served, the Tea pot and empty cups sit on the tea mat.
A Tea Mat is smaller than a table runner but larger than a place mat. The idea of the 3-monkeys is from the tradition of Buddhism, the principles of not dwelling on evil thoughts – see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil.
This design combines the 3-monkey motif and the hemp leaf motif. You have the opportunity to stitch in straight lines as well as free form. Four buttons wrapped in fabric are sewn to the four corners. Vintage home woven cotton fabric that adds extra depth to this tea mat is the fabric used to wrap these buttons.
Some of our customers even use it as a wall hanging. No doubt this easy to make tea mat will give you much joy when making it as well when it is being used.
