Plum in the east is regarded as one of Four Nobel Ones (or Four Gentlemen in Confucianism) (plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum). The plum tree is renowned for bursting into a riot of blossoms in deep winter. Its subtle fragrance spills forth at one of the coldest ties of the year, making it difficult to go unnoticed. Though neither the plum tree nor the flower are very striking, they manage to exude an otherworldly exquisiteness and beautiful elegance during the desolation of winter. The demeanor and character of the plum tree thereby serves as a metaphor for inner beauty and humble display under adverse conditions. Carrying items that are made with images of plums is said to bring these good characters to the person.
All fabrics used in this purse are hand dyed from natural indigo plant in a traditional way that has been used by generations. No toxic materials are used during dyeing process; instead there has been much work and care taken into the dyeing process so these fabrics achieve the right depth of blue shades. It takes weeks to prepare a piece of fabric as they need to be dried in the sun and then re-dyed several times.
A great piece to show shades of indigo and the elegance of the plum color!
