Natural Indigo Hand Dyed Shibori Fabric – Peacock flower
This beautiful cotton fabric is tie dyed with natural plant dye in a traditional way that has been used for generations. The Pattern is of everyday life and has auspicious meaning.
For Sashiko embroidery, patch work and making garments or household furnishings, this fabric is a good choice. Its beautiful indigo color is full, rich as well as lively that no modern industrial process can compare to.
Since the fabric has gone through water several times, there is no stretching done by machines during the dyeing process and the fabric will not shrink anymore; this will give you a gain of about 5% compared to the fabrics dyed or printed by the machine.
Given that the fabric is dyed from natural plant by hand, it carries handcraft “marks”. For example some of them may have tiny holes along the selvage for movement control during dyeing and there is also a subtle fragrance from plant dye carried by the fabric.
In addition the fabric does need some special care due to the natural dye. Without wash, tiny amount of excessive dye may transfer from the fabric to your hands after you work on it for a while, so washing before use is recommended. Please wash with similar colors with mild detergent and dry in a shady place. You can find more detailed guidance on fabric care in Care Tips.
